I was tipped off about this place by someone I ran into while exploring a different location about a year ago and finally got to check it out a few months ago (sorry for the lack of posting the last 6 months work and life has just been so busy my exploring has taken a back seat), and I have no information about this location at all. I will do my best to try find out what it is and what it's story is sometime soon.
What I can say is this is a pretty cool site to explore, it's big and a few buildings and silos and even still has the power on. There are three main buildings and a couple of what look like silos. We only explored two as the third one was pitch black and stank terribly, which could of been due to the torrential rain we were experiencing.
The first building was pretty big with several floors to explore and some amazing old machinery still intact, some incredible areas that I have no idea what they were used for (but made great photos) and even a section that looked like some sort of control room equipped with some pretty retro gear.
The second building wasn't as big or interesting, but in saying that it was a great place to wander around and check out the machinery and random objects still littered around, and access onto the roof was possible.
As well as these two there were silos which you could get into, and a third building as mentioned that stank, the stench was like a slap in the face with a sweat football sock, so we opted out of venturing into that one. There were a few other small buildings dotted around the area like a small office that had some books and old paperwork and some other intriguing things that i won't mention as it may give away location or information on it (i was asked by the chap who told me not to share its location with anyone i don't know) but i have photos of these that may help me to gain some further information to what this place was. A small house that looks like its last inhabitants didn't care much for hygiene or keeping the place clean is tucked away at the edge of the site and had a pretty creepy/junky chic feel to it, so I'm glad it's tenants weren't around to welcome us.
The only company we ran into there was a huge flock of cockatoos that were having a sweet time with the huge pile of old grain still spread over the concrete loading zone, and there were pretty proactive over their seeds!
Overall it was a great site to explore and the former owners had kindly left the power on in the site so all the lights and electricity still works. Hopefully I can shed some more light on it's life when functioning some time soon.
WHAT: An abandoned factory or malting?
ACCESS - EASY: There was a fence but it has been abused by a few too many people i think as we saw several holes in it
SECURITY - LOW: It's pretty tucked away from anything besides some factories...its a big site so once inside I think getting caught would be bad luck, even where we got in was pretty sheltered.
INTEREST - 8/10: This was a good explore, less trashed then a lot of other places around, and some really interesting architecture in some areas (which i am guessing is due to whatever it was used for). Lots of little interesting things lying around, some interesting machinery and the power is still on!
ALONE OR WITH A FRIEND: You could go alone, but incase the stench is unbearable in sections like when we were there it's worth taking a friend incase you pass out from a horrendous odour.
DANGERS: The smell, seriously it was rank, but may of been due to a lot of rain in recent times. The building looks sound and there is electricity still running so its light, but as the electricity is still on, don't go poking around shit that looks like it may be powered, no ones going to hear your screams here! And the cockatoos, don't try steal their grain, i reckon they'll mess you up!
Disclaimer – The person referred to as “I” in this post is not necessarily me, nor does “I” refer to anyone in particular, likewise with the word 'we'. I will not be held responsible it anyone ventures to these locations and gets in trouble or injured. These words may be a ramble of useless information and the photos found on a lost usb picked up in the gutter? Who knows?
where is this place in sydney ?
ReplyDeletePlease give me the address I can trade locations thanks Orlando.cbaker@gmail.com
Deletedid you not read his write up…he said location will not be shared as the person who told him asked not too…its urban exploration…if you get told where everything is its more like urban tourism :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of urban tourism - would be happy for someone to be a tour guide and take me on the sights!
ReplyDeleteThis place is sadly now off limits as the property has been sold and is undergoing redevelopment. It's now a work site and is pretty much secured with new fences and padlocks all around. It's also now teeming with workmen. Got kicked out of there today when I tried to wander in through the last remaining hole in the fence.
ReplyDeleteoh that sucks i would've loved to of got some more photos of it! like all good explores, they are disappearing!
DeleteTheres a way to get in as my mates and I got in the building and yep its amazing tbh, its pre dark and rooms do look pre sketchy and a lot of junk on the main ground but that doesn't seen to mind us. Once you get inside beware of where you walk because we saw a few alarms that are still in tact and working meaning that workmen enter the building so just be aware

ReplyDeletearound the trucking place?
ReplyDeleteYou can see it from Brickpit
ReplyDeleteI want to be updated. You can't go in or you will be trespassing. North Connex has blocked it all off. 24/7 it is teaming with construction workers and security guards. A friend and I went over and walk all around. It is all blocked. There is a part of the fence that is completely stuffed. You can climb on the old fence and jump over to the pipes. Run across the pipes and jump over the other fence onto the roof. That is like the only way to get in. It is hard though.

ReplyDeleteyeah its blocke doff by west connex
DeleteYou can't climb it. If you go in though, there is a way to get inside the place past the pipes.
Deleteyeah theres liek tonnes of cars securing it but at the main train track entrance theres no workers when we went there. Everything is blocked so thats the end of the malting :(
ReplyDeleteThe place is teaming with construction workers and guards. You will get caught easily. Going at night is the best time. You have patrols though. It says there are dogs but I haven't seen any yet. The only way to get in is to do parkour. There are also cameras. The only way to get in is to go to the end of a street and follow a path. You will end up against a beat up fence. You can jump onto the pipes. That's it really. There is one entrance. I saw it when I was walking all around the place. Through a fence.
ReplyDeleteAccess: Medium - Hard
Security: High
They also knocked down a lot of the older buildings. The train tracks are still there though.
The main one is still there

ReplyDeleteOnce you get inside the building they won't know you are inside. It is only the outside you have to worry about.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone interested how it looks like now...https://gyazo.com/7f0166137510a765d74650cc604516f0
